Today’s job market is constantly changing. Therefore, there is a real need to have a well-written, effective resume if you want to land the job that you desire. As a medical transcriptionist, your resume needs to instantly grab your reader’s attention and make them want to meet you so that they can learn more about you. Of course, everyone’s resume is going to do this somewhat differently but there are still some things that your resume should always include.
What A Resume Is Used For
Your resume needs to clearly state your career objectives. These need to be in line with the job that you are applying for. In your resume you will want to be precise about what skills and capabilities you are able to offer. It is not a good idea to mention your personal hobbies or interests though unless they represent your talents or experience and thus support your career goals.
Your Resume’s Objective
The ultimate goal should be to have a very professional, very clean, right to the point resume possible. You don’t want to use more words than necessary. Just state the facts in a very direct manner. Remember these jobs are really competitive and thus it can be very difficult to get one. This resume is your opportunity to showcase your abilities. In order to do this though, you’ll need to think like an employer and only list what they would want to see there.
What Not To Do Within Your Resume
Make sure that you never lie or exaggerate within your resume. Simply state as many facts as possible in a basic, yet attractive, format. By giving too much information you will simply cause your potential employer to not even want to take a second look. So, put forth your best foot but don’t take too big of a step here.
Remembering Size Constraints
Don’t worry about there being a size constraint on your resume. After all, your resume can be more than 1 page long depending upon your experience. There are some employers may be a bit reluctant to read long resumes though. This is why it is best to keep your resume brief, yet interesting and easy to read.
What To Include In Your Resume
Some of the other things that are important to include within your resume are:
- Showcase your education because if you are well trained, you are more likely to get hired. This information should be listed directly beneath your name and contact information.
- Since most medical transcription jobs will require at least 2 years of experience, your work experience is just as important as your education. Herein you should also include any internships that you have held as well.
- Make sure that you also list any hardware or software that you are familiar with (i.e. foot pedal, computer, software expander program). You should also you’re your employer just how familiar you are with these things. Don’t be afraid to boast here. This will help your employer know that you really are ready to begin working as soon as they need you, if you are eligible.
